The main building is very beautiful and looks just as it does in the photos, and the location is excellent. However, the small room cannot, in my opinion, be considered a room of a four-star hotel.

It is true that the hotel clearly states that this room is located outside the main building, and the room itself has been properly fitted out. However, what has essentially been converted into a guest room appears to be a small storage room or annex attached to the side of the main house.

There is only a small door in the corner and no windows. Unfortunately, the entrance was right next to some bushes that were full of thousands of mosquitoes. Of course, I understand that the hotel cannot be held responsible for a mosquito infestation, but in practice it meant that we had to enter and leave the room as quickly as possible to prevent mosquitoes from getting inside.

The worst issue, however, was the very strong smell of damp inside the room, made worse by the fact that there were no windows and therefore no possibility of airing it naturally.

In summary, this is a beautiful four-star hotel in an excellent location, but this particular room is simply not acceptable for a hotel of this category. Unfortunately, when I booked, it was the only room available.

I would recommend the hotel itself, but I would avoid the small room at all costs.

Location can't be beat and the rooms are really nice. I highly recommend the terrace room. The staff are wildly helpful as well including a pharmacy emergency during a bank holiday. Would gladly stay again

I stayed at Le Pavillon Des Lys for 3 nights in August (peak tourist season). The Hotel is very nice and accommodative with storing bags early/late and all the staff were lovely to deal with. Check in/out times do not have a lot of flexibility though.

I stayed in the double bedded cottage outside - aircon was super strong, water pressure was great, and bed / linen was clean and well made. Hotel breakfast was slightly more limited than in a larger hotel, but if this a problem then there are a billion boulangeries and cafes within a blocks walk.

Practical Tips:

- When opening the after hours gate, you have to tug the gate towards yourself (after entering the code) and then push to open. If you just push without the tug it won’t open

- If you stay in the cottage, you need to be extremely mindful of the lights and what time you plan to be back. If you leave the lights on and come back after dark, there will be a billion tiny insects trying to swarm into your room as soon as you open the door.

- If you are cycling around, there are plenty of spots to leave your bike within the courtyard overnight

Couldn’t be happier with our choice of hotel! Château d’Amboise and Clos Lucé are within walking distance, and there are plenty of restaurants nearby as well.

The hotel itself is everything you want a French boutique hotel to be: quaint, cozy, charming, but the rooms are surprisingly large, especially after the rather cramped hotel rooms of Paris! Our room felt surprisingly spacious.

A small detail that was a big plus for me was the towel warmer in the bathroom. I wanted to do a little laundry midway through our trip, and it came in very handy.

Breakfast was excellent and managed to please both my French husband and me, the American, which I think is quite an accomplishment!

And a special mention has to go to Olivier at the front desk, who is quite simply the sweetest, nicest, friendliest, and overall bestest! He made an already lovely stay even more enjoyable.

My only regret is that we didn’t plan to stay longer. I would happily come back!

Premium location in Amboise: you can walk to both Le Clos Lucé and the royal castle.

Rooms are very spacious and quiet, service is impeccable.

If you drive there, you can even park on property (the small SUV we rented did fit through the entrance gate).

Olivier, the receptionist, took great care of us, giving us solid recommendations for nearby restaurants - of which there are plenty.

Across the many hotels we stayed at on our trip, this was easily the best.

If your journey takes you anywhere near Amboise, definitely consider this hotel as the top option.

We will definitely be back!

Wonderful 5 night visit as we used this central Amboise location for exploration of the region. Room was comfortable and over our stay we had to transition from heating to cooling as we ended the week much hotter than we started. Thanks for being such great hosts.
